At Russell Properties, our team is the heart of everything we do. With decades of combined experience across design, construction, client care, and community involvement, we’re proud to deliver new homes that reflect both quality craftsmanship and genuine care for our clients. From our family founders Mike and Vicki Russell to our long-standing staff who have been with us for decades, each member brings dedication, expertise, and a personal touch to every project. Together, we’ve built over 600 homes across Wellington’s premier suburbs and earned a trusted reputation for excellence, integrity, and service.

Mike Russell
Director
I have over 30 years of experience and expertise in the building industry, predominantly in Wellington's premier subdivisions of Churton Park and Grenada.
Specialising in property development with a focus on quality. I believe in working with local contractors to deliver the very best outcomes with the best service. I am proud to say Russell Properties has built over 600 homes and has gained a trusted reputation amongst clients and suppliers.
I am actively involved in my community as Chairman of the Board for the Hurricanes Alumni Foundation. The foundation was formed eight years ago to help and support Hurricanes and Hurricanes Poua, players, management and staff, and their families transition to a successful life post-rugby.
It is great that I get to work alongside my wife Vicki, who is the designer of all our homes, plus the colour consultant for our spec homes.
Vicki Russell
Architectural Designer & Marketing
I’ve been with Russell Properties since the beginning, working across architectural plans, interior colour schemes, and marketing.
My main focus is designing homes that make smart use of space, respond to the site, and reflect how people live today—listening to clients and adapting to the way lifestyles have evolved over the years.
As Mike’s partner, and having lived and raised our family in Churton Park, I’ve enjoyed watching the suburb grow and change into the vibrant community it is today.
Outside of work, I’m drawn to anything creative—pottery, painting, photography—and I love spending time in nature or getting lost in a good book.
Ryan Mayer
Construction Manager
I have been part of the team for over 20 years, and I still find every project as rewarding as the first. My role focuses on managing the planning, execution, and completion of construction work—making sure everything runs on time, meets compliance standards, and delivers the quality our clients expect.
I also handle the full scope of the building consent process with Wellington City Council, from lodging consents right through to securing Code of Compliance. It’s a detail-driven part of the job, and one I take pride in getting right.
When I’m not on site or reviewing plans, you’ll likely find me out on the trails—running, biking, or spending time with my family enjoying everything Churton Park and Wellington have to offer.
Clare McMahon
People & Culture
I have been with Russell Properties for 10 years, starting out with just two mornings a week checking Placemakers invoices. Over time, my role has grown, and I am now working full-time, providing support across many areas of the business.
I am passionate about all aspects of the construction industry. I enjoy collaborating with designers and builders throughout the process and I find great satisfaction in helping clients move into their dream homes.
Russell Properties is a fantastic place to work, and 10 years under my belt, I still consider myself a “relative newbie” — a testament to the long-standing relationships within the company. Many staff and subcontractors have been with Russell Properties for years, which speaks volumes about the culture and values of the business.
My life outside of work is just as busy and rewarding. I am proud mum to four teenage girls and two step-children and own a small lifestyle block with my partner, which keeps me on my toes.

With over 30 years of experience in the building industry I bring a wealth of knowledge and a hands-on approach to every project.
I work closely with our clients to guide them through the building process, ensuring they feel supported and confident from start to finish.
I’m passionate about being part of a small, family-run business where personal service, trust, and genuine care for our clients are at the heart of everything we do.
We value relationships just as much as results, and it’s this combination that helps us deliver high-quality builds while making the journey an enjoyable one for our clients.
Outside of work, I love spending time outdoors - whether it’s tending to my rural property, enjoying nature walks or heading out on bike rides.
